My dad bought this pistol waaaay back in the 1960's, since he was into black powder firearms. Never did anything with it and now I have it taking up space in my gun safe. I'm not a black powder guy but would like some information on it and maybe find someone that would have an interest in purchasing it.
The action seems tight although in inspecting it there is wear. I would not fire it! Bore is pitted and overall finish is very worn. Barrel and frame do share the same serial number. Handles appear to be original. There may be a faint part of a cartouche (look at picture) but wood is worn but not cracked or broken. There is a mark on the cylinder (again note in picture). A "C" stamped one the left side of barrel and a possible "C" toward front.
I know this doesn't have a great deal of value unless it can be associated with a particular event or person and even at that not a whole lot more. This should give you guys with the knowledge a challenge. Thanks for any help or interest.

It is an 8 in barrel and is a .44 caliber. Also the "color" is a faded brown which would make it an Army unit. By serial number I'm guessing it to be 1861-1862??
