Hello All!

Tauck (http://www.tauck.com/ ) is an international tour company that runs several tours in the U.S. The reason that I am emailing you is because, with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, we are planning some new tours!

Part of what we would like to happen on these tours is for Civil War reenactors/living historians to interact with our guests and give them a different experience than one would find on most tours. Ideally, we would be looking for people who could give our clients a slice of what "camp" life was like at the time of the war. This could be anything from showing them a Civil War camp tent, to cooking them some hardtack. These re-enactors would have to interact with our guests and be informative, but they do not necessarily have to be experts. Furthermore, they do not have to be just soldiers. They can come from a wide range of perspectives including slaves and musicians. I am hoping to find people who might be interested in this regard.

To answer any of your logistical questions these re-enactors would have to work for a few hours every week at the same time. The work period would be for approximately 15 weeks in the fall of 2011. Compensation would of course be given, the details of which would worked out at a later date. Specifically, we are looking for people in and around the Washington D.C., Richmond, and Charlottesville areas. We will be looking people in other areas later on. I would love to start a dialogue with them. Please feel free to call me or email me and to pass on any of my contact information to anyone you think might be interested. Thanks so much for you time.

So I have been advised that it might be wise to be a bit more specific about exactly what we are looking for. So I'm going to try an paint the ideal vision of what the company would like to see happen on a tour. The bus would roll up to whatever battlefield they were going to, for the sake of example we will say Gettysburg. As they got off the bus (tour groups are usually between 16-30 people) they would find waiting for them a Civil War camp tent set up maybe with a fire. A reenactor/living historian would be dressed in full garb and would be ready to give them a presentation that would be a minimum of 45min - 1 hour and no more than 3 hours. The presentation would engage them and show them what the civil war camp experience was really like. They person doing this presentation does not have to me an expert but they do have to be able to interact with the guest and be personable. This presentation would take place once a week, same day every week (most likely a weekday) for a period of 15-20 weeks in the fall of 2011.
