I finally was able to get a CS 17 at a reasonable price. In my opinion it is one of the coolest Confederate staff buttons due to its crude manufacture. This one has some ground action on the face but the eagle and "CS" are strong and legible. Best of all it still retains the original shank which is quite rare for these buttons.
Dug examples like this one are hard to find but obtainable. Non dug ones are a different story, they are like hen's teeth and asking prices for them range from $6000-10,000.
