I'm not quite sure of scale. Could you qualify please ? You say 90mm - does that mean the figurine is 90mm from foot to top of head, or flagstaff ? That would make it about 1/20th-ish scale I reckon.

Do you work from a sketch or other visual prompt ?

Is the diorama meant to depict a particular incident ? Do the dead leaves on the "ground" deliberately indicate a certain time of year ?

Is your thread title "Rebel Yell" also the title of the piece ?

So many questions ! Please take them as an indication of admiration.

If I remember correctly I topped the base with magic - sculpt and before it set I pressed in the longer grasses which I had bought from my local hobby shop. I then painted on a glue , something like Elmers glue is ideal and scattered a mixture of very fine grass from (woodland scenics) and added small twigs from the garden. The small leaves are are from a catkin off a Silver Birch tree, I collected them in Sept/Oct .

The 90mm is to the top of the head.
I don't work from a sketch or anything, it's just my imagination in overdrive.
It's not meant to depict a particular incident I just knew I wanted to sculpt a single figure showing his determination and defiance and the name Rebel Yell just seemed a fitting title for the piece.

He had a printout with a description. I think it related to a specific battle or event and depicted the General/or/Colonel, the soldier and the drummer of a unit.

Here's another scratch-built figure I made. I made the flag using sheet brass and the fence is made from Balsa wood. The scale is approx 90mm.

Beautiful figure.i am making a 1/8th scale confederate infantryman figure from miliput and was wondering what material you use?also what paints do you favour?Again,a lovely figure.

Similar to Miliput I used a 2 part putty called Magic-Sculpt which I also mix with Duro (or as it's sometimes called Green Stuff) for smaller detail work.
I have also used Super Sculpey Firm and Bees Putty both are a clay which you need to bake in the oven, so something you might consider .
In regards to painting I use Acrylics ( Model color ,Vallejo ) brands.
Can I ask why 1/8th scale and will you be posting pics of your Confederate figure . I hope so.

Sorry that I missed the original post when it was issued. I find myself being distracted as of late.
What I'm so impressed with your work is your expertise at sculpting. Everything is in scale: the body, legs, hands, head, everything "fits" together. Nothing too big or too long.
