Rebel Flags that "Might-have-been"

In 1872, George Henry Preble published an extensive history of American flags entitled, Our Flag. It includes a long chapter (pp.383-422) on "Southern Flags of the Great Rebellion, 1860-1865." Among its numerous plates is one showing the various flags of the Confederacy, national and state, also including four rather interesting proposed national flags:

and, a decidedly extraordinary:

One I particularly like, though, is a flamboyant Louisiana flag of 1861, that seems particularly appropriate for N'awleans:

Btw: The book also covers in some detail, the interesting debates within the North as to whether and how the U.S. flag should be altered in response to the Rebellion.
