Rather odd details on the sleeve cuffs. The turn back (the area beneath the cord chevron) is very wide. The lower button is sewn on very low and the upper button sewn on rather close to the chevron.

Standard cuff on the left. A less common three button cuff on the right. Note the wider turn back. What I see in the above photo is a wide cuff with a very low set lower button. With so many frock coat manufacturers these this varied.

From what I can tell, it is the cartridge box for the 1853 Enfield. He's definitely wearing the Enfield bayonet scabbard.
