You all know I'm worthless when it comes to video games. Therefore, I need some help from you gamers. The used book and record shop where I volunteer occasionally gets donations of video games. We have some PlayStation 2 games (nothing Civil War, though). Will those play on newer PlayStation consoles? The library only goes back to PlayStation 3 which leads me to believe anything older might no longer work, although it could be that anything older was no longer in good enough condition to circulate. I've seen your posts for older games that you miss being able to play. I'd be grateful for your advice about these older PlayStation games. If they still work, we might be able to make a shopper's day and keep the games out of the landfill.

Thank you all! I'm finding this very helpful. Another related question if I may? Do any of you still use a portable PlayStation (hand-held) that can take a UMD disc with a movie on it? The shop has been gifted with a couple of those movies (kung-fu-type stuff). I had no idea what they were, but the PSP logo made me think of PlayStation, so that was where I started to look. It's definitely a dead technology (as in they don't make them anymore and haven't for years), but was the hand-held PlayStation popular enough that there might still be ones out there and people collecting the UMD movie discs? As far as I can tell, the UMD discs won't work on anything else.

Yeah, you can still find some PSPs around. Facebook market place or Ebay might be a place to look. Of course, there's always a risk they may not work off those sites.

You should actually check eBay and sort by Sold. Some PS2 games are very rare and sell for a decent amount.

Since this is a Civil War site, I will call your attention to a pair of games released by Activision in partnership with The History Channel. Neither are very accurate but if you have the console you might as well try them:

These are fun, though. I have both on my gaming computer. Harder to find a disc for, but I enjoyed playing them, though they are short for a game.
