I am hoping someone can provide me with some SPECIFIC information about Tom Custer: What was his substantive rank as well as his brevet rank as of April 9, 1865 ? Also, were those ranks held within the United States Army, the United States Volunteers, or the State of Michigan. I would appreciate the help!
