Question about the Supplement to The Official Records

Hi all,

Over the past several years I have been working on a multi-volume research project on Civil War orders of battle for every major battle and campaign. (I am currently up to mid 1864 and while I did self-publish the 1861 and 1862 volumes on CreateSpace via Amazon I have been in the process of revising them as I push forward and new resources become available to me). Thanks to university Interlibrary Loan I have been able to access a number of rare and/or out of print books. My question is about Part II of the Supplement to the Official Records known as record of events. I am wondering if anyone knows what exactly is contained in these volumes and if it is worth looking into? I have already placed a request for the first ten volumes of Part II. Do you think I should keep the request or is it not worth my time? I would like to note that the reports contained in Part I yielded a wealth of wonderful information. Thanks to my fellow researchers for their insights!

I haven't seen those particular volumes but I bet it's worth a try. Fold3 has Record of Events for the Confederate units and some (but not all) for the Union. Sometimes the RoEs are left blank even though the unit was definitely in a battle during the time covered.

Fold3 has been a lifesaver in filling in Confederate commands and command successions. I'm hoping that someday they will have the Union records up, though most of their information can be readily found in public domain regimental histories and such and their OR's are more complete. The Confederacy has been a bit of a challenge at times due to lack of complete records. I've been cross-referencing all of my research regarding Confederate commanders with Fold3, though sometimes the handwriting on some documents can be a challenge.
