Hello there!

I have some questions about my kepi.

Where it comes from?
And if its real or fake? Would also love other information about the kepi!

And on the sabre badge it says "meyer steel"

Thanks

A union officer's kepi (that this one is trying to look like) would look like this:

Union gear is pretty easy to tell because most of it (unlike CS) is regulation.

A couple of points: You will never see upside down swords in real gear. Also you will never see any metal element (like those swords) that is been sewn onto something.

I think that what you have is re-enactor kepi.

Most likely a GAR cap or possibly from one of the various post-war military schools. These items typically found produced by one of the many professional commercial venders that nearly every major city had. This one above is marked with a commercial venders name. These typically pre-date the reenactment hobby era, so unlikely it was a reenactors cap. The crossed swords might have been a later addition to the cap. Metallic insignia devices were most commonly attached via wires/loops. But occasionally they are indeed found on originals attached by other means, even on Federal goods...
