Quartermaster Shop is Closing

I just received a notice that the Quartermaster Shop is closing. They are accepting orders until July 1.

This is a loss to the reenacting community. I'm glad that I ordered my officers uniform last year - arrived this spring. The customer service was always high quality.

Their website says they've been doing this for 48 yrs. I suspect they need to retire at this point. It'd be great if they sold off patterns and fabric.

I found another avenue. Still have to send my own fabric. I trust very few sutler's jean.

Nothing they used was correct in way of patterns, materials, or construction.

Overall, I would say yes, there are fewer people reenacting, but those that do have a higher standard than what the Quartermaster Shop offered. I think their target demo is aging out of the hobby and the younger people involved want something higher quality. They were nice enough folks, and in the nascent days of the hobby, they were among the top makers, but times and research have changed and they were no longer relevant. I wish them the best in their retirement though.

I'd heard the same thing. I never used them because their prices were nearly the same as some of the folks who are using the top notch materials and research-based patterns. I couldn't see myself paying that much for something that I couldn't use for "mainstream" AND "campaigner" purposes.
