Purchasing Civil War documents?

I was wondering whether any CWT folk had any experience in purcshaing Civil War era documents and are willing to share their experience?

I am aware that there is a private marketplace in the sale and purchase of documents and I was wondering how this works. Is there are central clearing house on what is for sale at any given time? Are there brokers out there who will search out itens for you? What the proces generally like?
