Uniforms Private purchase Forage Cap

Nice find, congrats. Have you checked under & around all the areas for hair? Odd question, but there could be an original strand there somewhere. Sort of reminds me of very old photographs or paintings that have a backing on them, then behind that is the artwork. Sometimes if slit open, there's a letter or other item taped, or something written by the original owner or person who framed it. I'd also be curious to put a black light or a UV light on the hat to see if traces of blood, etc. would show up. Maybe I read too much Nancy Drew.

Interesting suggestions to be sure! I will look a little closer at the lining, especially where it's separated. I don't think we own a black light but I'm pretty sure Amazon sells them.

Frank, does yours have the ventilator in the center?? Very nice!!!!
Yes that cap had a ventilator. I no longer own that cap. I displayed it with a repro strap. The cap was in pretty rough condition and had been partially restored (not by me). I know that caps with ventilators are rare and I really enjoyed having it for a few years but I decided to trade it back to Shiloh Relics for another forage cap. Here's a link to my post with the ventilator cap if you'd like to see it.

The acrylic cases that Package4 provided the link for look excellent for displays!

Yeah, auctions can be amazing sometimes for sure. I was amazed to pick up an amazing forage cap and original wooden block form (didn't even know that it came with it) all for $200. It was in a decorative arts auction in the NE so no one was concerned. The cap plus form combined retail around $3350 on the low end. Other auctions retail plus haha. Right time, right place in some cases.

Pictures for reference from that auction
