I saw a video made by Jas. Townsend on how to make salt pork. Very informational!
I also disagree with the video in the OP that modern salt pork (at least the store bought brands that I have seen) emulates the 1860's version.
I very much agree that it is a part of one's reenacting experiences!

Wow! That salt pork has a lot of meat in it. Most of what I see is just fat (and salt), so I use bacon if applicable.

Any large glass bowl or plastic container will work as well as the crock. Stainless steel would work, just stay away from any reactive metals, like aluminum.
