Have you had a wet plate image - tintype/ambrotype - made by a Photographer at a studio or re-enactment or Living History event?

I love to see them. I was reminded by the Bob Szabo thread.

Some years back I was lucky enough to be assisting the late 'Prof' Sean McKenna, the pioneering Irish Wetplate Collodion Photographer, at an event where he needed to do some test shots whilst setting up. He took two and gave me them. I love them, took years off me!

Our boys were portraying Western Confed that weekend … that's why I'm in a Columbus Depot jacket. However the Prof's tent was in the Union Camp which led to some er, colourful interactions between the blue bellies and yours truly :whistling:

I agree, those look great! Real historical. :)

I plan on getting one made when visiting Gettysburg next year. There's the Victorian Photography Studio that offers wet plate photography. I think they also have the option of dressing up for the period; at least they mention this option in their price list. I hope I can decide until then whether I want to pose as a lady, a Confederate or a Union soldier.

I don't know if I look like I just marched 4.8 miles in full gear, (which I just did when pic was taken) or look like I'm ready to shout: "Hey, GET OFF MY LAWN!:stomp:

Maybe you marched 4.8 miles in full gear from camp to your home so that you could shout at invaders, "Hey, GET OFF MY LAWN!"

You have a mighty proud pose, good sir. And that hat suits you very nicely.

Boy remind me not to walk on your lawn!

More importantly I have paid for pics of those important to me.

These are superb Johan, love the Patriotic Flag Sewing Bee, great idea for an image. The slight movement by the kids in the family image screams 1860's. The Western Feds at rest with the stacked arms is also a knockout!

We had an image made by the Prof when we were over in the Ulster-American Folk Park in Omagh, N. Ireland, similar idea, but with some local Union sympathising townsfolk

The picture of the men at rest was an attempt to recreate a CDV I had seen. The foreground and subject of the picture had been a telegraph wagon but in the background was a Company or part pf a a column at rest. Men just lounging about taking a rest with four officers standing & sitting doing some paperwork or studying a map. I think we did ok, even if only one officer showed up for the picture.

Dave Rambow is a true artist. His work is superb, even when it doesn't meet his standards it looks good.

Did Michael Rhodes create the image? Gorgeous, by the way.
I will have to look up his card, I think I have it in my basket. He is located around Hale Farm area. He also took a pic of a young couple who got engaged(Surprise!) on Sunday. It was really beautiful. I wonder if @Belle Montgomery knows who he is..she was across from him with her marvelous display.
