Possible Confederate Rifle?

Possible Confederate rifle found at a local Antique Mall. It is a converted M1840 rifle with a "hand forged" hammer. No identifiable stamps or markings. What do you guys think? A possible Confederate rifle?

Nope, I didn't buy it. I don't buy anything without doing thorough research.

Not Confederate or even Civil War in my opinion. The lock plate appears to be from a Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor. The bolster on the barrel was ground down to fit the lock plate and is from a different model. It's just a mess and for once I agree with Bayonet. lol

first from what i see is that someone took a springfield and cut the stock down to make it into a hunting rifle back in the day. the second think i notice is that the barrel does not line up lock plate as it should.
