Portables Portable Soup

(from What I Know: Or, Hints on the Daily Duties of a Housekeeper, by Elizabeth Nicholson, 1856)

Ingredients:

Meat (can be scraps, bones, etc.)​
Spices as desired​

Instructions:

Boil down the meat to a thick jelly, season highly with spices, dry in the sun. Put it away out of the air, and to 1 inch square put one quart boiling water--vegetables added.​
