A friend In Louisiana has gotten me interested in Port Hudson recently, decided to make a diorama of it in light of the 160th anniversary of the siege passing recently. The barbette gun is a metal wargaming piece from North Star Miniatures and the figures are Perry Miniatures artillerists in 28mm

Did you order the Perry miniatures directly from them ? On their website it indicated that it might take a month to get an order.

When I saw the first photo, I thought this isn't going to torn out good. But Wow! Impressive that you built the earthworks from scratch. Great job. I like to see action in the figures on a diorama but especially an interaction among them. Maybe it will inspire me on my next diorama or even single figure. I have a resin figure of the WW1 Red Baron standing on planks of a trench. I have been trying to imagine what I can do with that one.

Put him next to a model of one of his planes . The red Fokker triplane is iconic but he flew others as well. Then you could add a ground service crew and an airfield and ...... Sorry , I get carried away rather easily with dioramas .

Well done sir. I have been to Port Hudson 5 times as near as I can remember. Tough duty station for Confederate and Federal troops. As I recall, as the siege wore on the Confederate artillery fired less and less. As soon as they opened up, Federal artillery in superior numbers would fix on them.

Nicely done. My gr-gr-grandfather was there. My mother and I visited the site a few years ago.
I had more than few G G Uncles and cousins there as well.
If one doesn't have enough time to tour the entire park, at least a visit to the Visitor Center and the first CSA earthwork is worth a look.

Gen. Gardner made effective use of Lunettes, some of which yet remain. For any who visit, a short walk to Fort Desperate really gives one a good understanding of the siege war and the two Union assaults.
Absolutely !
