I have come across, in my research, several references of Union soldiers being buried at Point Lookout, Maryland. However there is no cemetery there, does anyone know the disposition of the remains that were once there? In particular I was looking for a one Pvt. Edwin Stockwell, a member of the 151st NY Infantry and later Veteran Reserve Corps who died, and according to records, was buried there in September 1864. Any information would be helpful, thanks!

Union soldiers being buried at Point Lookout, Maryland

"After the war, in 1867, the U.S. War Department began purchasing land in various states that contained Union and Confederate cemeteries. Rather than establish a national cemetery at Point Lookout, the dead from the Union cemetery were moved to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia. The Confederate cemeteries were left in place".

Thank you for that Info, I wonder if some of the men were reinterred as unidentified, due to poor record keeping, as this private in particular has no record in Arlington
