I was at a local store and I found this for 10 dollars. What is it? It looks like a belt or sash buckle of some kind to me. Its about 4 inches by 4 inches. I did a Google image search but it was not helpful

@Package4 is spot on with it being a repop SC martingale. Many officer during the CW had fancy items not only for them self's but their horse as well. Below is a US Eagle version.

I have never understood Why— but you will find brass Martidales on display in English pubs and also in US.

It's a horse-affection thing, as those creatures have shorter lifespans than your species. Kind of like putting someone's numbered Jersey up in a sports bar - savvy now?
