This is simple way to prepare peas. One used by many farm wives.
Green Peas
Boil in salted water, a little more than enough to cover them, from 15 to 3o minutes according to their age; add butter and more salt if needed, and boil up once. When old, they are improved by putting very little saleratus into the water in which they are boiled, around a quarter of a teaspoonful to half a peck of shelled peas.
