Pensions for Native Americans

Did the widows of Native American Civil War era soldiers receive Union Army pensions? They were not U.S. citizens.
 
I'm not sure about the widows. Indians had a difficult time getting these pensions, if they even applied for them. Especially difficult was if they had been in the USCT - colored applied to Indians, too, and some were black Indians. After the war, some of the Native scouts who served the US Army were given pensions but, again, it was sometimes uncertain.
 
I am not sure if he is related to Stand Waite but here is J.L. Waite's pension

My ggggrandfather, Briton, fought during the Revolution and was wounded twice. Around age 80 he applied for, and got, a pension. None of the ones who fought during the Civil War received anything but they were Confederates! For quite a while the ex-Confederates had to take care of themselves.
