How does one locate pension records?

I found the ones I am looking for on Ancestry.com but it wont let me save them to my computer. I can't find those records on Fold3 or anywhere else that I have looked. Not sure why Ancestry wont let me save them all onto my computer.

The name is J. E. Lavender and pension was filed in Alabama by him for several years and then his widow later on. He was with 3rd. Texas Brigade Cavalry.

Ancestry updated their software a little while ago. The result is its harder to save documents and images than it was before. You should be able to save it if you hit the dropbox on the far right at the top of the screen.

As far as where the actual pension record is if you scroll down Ancestry.com should tell you where the original is housed or where they got it.

Confederate pension records are scattered in state archives, and not all online. FamilySearch.org (free membership) has some that Ancestry does not, and some states have their own online systems.

Can I jump in on this and ask a question. I need to learn more about Pensions.
I didn't look at these in detail but it is obvious that several Pension Application forms were filled out on different dates. In the first post from Andy, I count 5 applications.
What is going on here? Is each Application filled out to provide more detail?
Please explain.

DixieRifles, I didn't look at this application closely, but it was common for an applicant (or his widow) to file several sets of applications, after some are turned down, new eligibility requirements are made, and so on. (You'd have to look through the file to see exactly why in each case.) It's pretty common, and frustrating for researchers when applications filed years apart contain conflicting information -- that happens, too.

JWheeler331, I just wanted to touch base with you. I had a 3rd great grand-uncle in the 3rd Texas Cavalry. Private Luther Rice Scruggs in Company B. Nice to meet you and find some common ground.

Hello. Always nice to meet someone who had an ancestor in the same Regiment as one of mine.

It's only anecdotal, but when I look at my own family's pension records, all of them, ALL, were initially turned down. They had to go hobbling back on canes and crutches to re-apply before any were granted.

If I don't find contradictory evidence in primary materials I am researching, I know I am missing something.
