Orb photos, any one?

While talking with the Central Mass Civil War Round Table last week, the subject of orbs came up. The gentleman speaking had some photos that he had taken at Gettysburg in which orbs of light inexplicably appeared. I had this happen twice while I was at Gettysburg, and I suspect that some of you may have encountered this as well. Here's one of them - note the ball of light in the left of the photo. Ignore the pose. At the time I lived on the same street as the second oldest sycamore tree in the US, so I had to pose with this witness tree for the sake of comparison (the sycamore in WAY bigger and predates the American Revolution).

Great Swamp Fight Memorial 12/17/15, 340th anniversary of my 9th great-grandfather's death leading his company of Roxbury militia (Massachusetts Bay Colony) across the log bridge in the attack on the Narragansett Indian fort. I know the orb is due to the direction of the sunlight striking the lens, but it still makes you study those photos hoping to see something.

Orbs are often the result of a dirty lens or a flying insect . It only takes a slight bit of a smudge on the lens to create orbs . They also occur when light is at a low angle . These from Gettysburg were caused by raindrops hitting my lens . This was back in the film days so I didn't know about them until my film was developed .

These were taken by my better half at Olustee a few years ago during a night artillery demo during the annual reenactment. It was a clear calm night and other photos she took were perfectly clear.

I have seen orbs on several paranormal investigations I have been on and I used to have some photographs with orbs in them.

While we have not seen any orbs when visiting civil war battlefields we have had other experiences in Gettysburg that got our attention. We enjoy the ghost tours and have taken several but our most unusual experiences have been at the Farnsworth House. We stopped in for some coffee and deserts one summer evening and while sitting at our table we felt how nice and cool it was until our hostess apologized for the lack of air conditioning because it was broken. Another time we went to the Story Teller show in the basement of the Farnsworth house, after the presentation we decided to take a few pictures, the results of which no one has been able to explain. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Shot with 35mm film camera about 15 years ago

I remember an episode of Unsolved Mysteries that focused on the Farnsworth House. Your pictures are better than their story!

Wasn't bugs, that event is in the winter, even in North Florida it's quite cool and dry that time of year and not very buggy.

I have visited several places i have orb pictures and one similar to the Farnsworth house i took in savannah Georgia at colonial cemetery. I will have to hunt for pictures

Paging @John Winn , whose wife Andrea is a photo artist and creates pictures similar to these. They are called "light paintings". John, what does Andrea say to these?
In the first photo I'd say it had a long exposure time and someone has placed the lanterns with lit candles on the coffin while the lens was still open. For the second photo I cannot offer an explanation, though.

In the first photo I'd say it had a long exposure time and someone has placed the lanterns with lit candles on the coffin while the lens was still open. For the second photo I cannot offer an explanation, though.

She says it appears to be a light source from behind or the side that was reflected (note in the second photo the three glass objects) while the camera used a long exposure and was moved. She also noted that the light lines are close to parallel and there's obvious shapes at the ends that look like bulbs of some kind. Note that in the second photo there's an obvious lit sign in the upper right; that could have been the source (or one of them).

The goddess has spoken.

Ive got one from Sach's bridge Gettysburg - me and the hubby last time we visited the bridge. My husband's ancestor was in Woffords brigade. McLaws' division and brigade Field Hospitals were established nearby the bridge. Check out the double orb / fog above his head.

I believe you. I only know what light painting is because I saw some photos of some of Piccaso's for Life magazine. They're pretty cool in and of themselves.

It's weird though that the fog or double orb seems to be right over my husband's head. Clearly, if it's "a something," it's not at all interested in me or the dog - just my husband. His gg grandfather was present at Gettysburg but was not wounded there ---- or anywhere else for that matter, until he was killed May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania. Maybe I should look at pictures from Spotsy again and see if there's anything unusual in any of them?
