Old Abe lived until 1881 and after he died Abe was stuffed and displayed until destroyed by fire in 1904.

Old Abe is the mascot for Memorial High School, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

There is a marker along Hwy 178, Jim Falls, Wisconsin, pertaining to Old Abe.

The first I heard about "Old Abe" was when a colleague, a Wisconsin native, put up an artwork in his office showing the regiment and mascot.
