Grant Not impressed with Grants performance

And you normally know better than to comment about a poster considering it is against the rules. Posted as moderator.

Simply put, when things went right, Grant was the genius. Otherwise, it was Meade's fault. So it went throughout the Overland Campaign.

Speak no Ill of Grant, mind you.
As per the rules of this forum, I edited out the insult.

In my thread " by what metric was thr CSA soldier superior" I crunched the numbers for almost all the major battles and the average troop superiority ratio of Union vs CSA was only 1.86 to 1.
We have had numerous Grant bashing threads. I always say the best way to measure who the best general is the way you ask who the best professional sports coach is. Its the guy or gal with the most championship rings. By that metric the supebowl champ of the Civil War is Grant ain't nobody close.

Roll Tide!

So, what you are saying is...Grant was the Nick Saban of the civil war.

I can appreciate that.

So, even though y'all think my thread was ****, it really did help me out a lot. And maybe even helped someone else who was intimidated to make a thread and may have had the same questions.

I sincerely appreciate all of the links, information and opinons. I will try to check out all of the suggestions provided.

I work two jobs, Im working on my family tree and have a young child. I really don't have much time to spend solely on this, so I apologize if my novice attempt at a thread offended many of you.

Anywho, judging by all of the responses, this is still a highly debated subject that I will continue to investigate.

Your sports / coach analogy would be more pertinent if sports teams played consistently uneven. The average Confederate soldier must have been a "superman."

Many think the war would have ended earlier.
And many of our posters think slaves were as happy as pigs in slop. It don't make it necessarily so.
War is not about perfection. Nothing in human nature leads to perfection. Generals often fight the last war. What war was perfectly fought? Even say if an army fights a perfect war doesn't mean they fight perfectly in the next war.

Thomas perhaps? A longtime ago I posted some quotes from Ord and Upton about the way the war was being waged in Virginia. Murderous I think was a common word.
Thomas was a great general no doubt .Rosecrans accomplished a lot as well. On the other hand comparing their campaigns to the Overland Campaign is an apples vs oranges comparison.

Arm the Confederates with AKs and we will discuss the relevance of the analogy.
Point is it is a relevant comparison because the Communist Angolans had superior weaponry to UNITA and UNITA still fought longer then the Confederates.
I have a whole thread that focus on Confederate soldiers performance "by what metric is the Confederate soldier superior". By no objective metric is the Confederate soldier superior to the Union soldier. The Confederates were as good as the Union soldier but objectively not superior.
