Next weeks trip

I see you will be in San Antonio. Do you intend to visit the Alamo too? Never been there myself you understand, but I've heard it has a special "mystique" all its own.

In any case it sounds like a fun trip! Bon voyage!

It does contain it's own mystique, I felt that weird /hair-standing-up-on-your-neck/ goosebumpy sort of thing there before. Much like I did at Antietam's sunken road. Sacred Ground!
As far as the Ranger museum in Waco goes, I'm sure gentlemanrob has read a few books in his day as well. I don't recall if it did or didn't but it should have a pretty good display about Ben McCulloch there.

Do any of the Generals from the Area I am going to be in still have their house standing still?

next week I start my almost week long trip about a 16 hour trip one way. I will be visiting Mississippi (Jackson and Vicksburg), Northern Louisiana (Shreveport area), and Texas (Austin, Waco, Marshall, and San Antonio) I plan to visit the graves of the most Generals I have ever visited on one trip. Also looking for civil war battle sites as well as other stuff I should see on my trip if anyone has any recommendations of places that are must see let me know.
As @luinrina said, I live in Raymond and would be glad to show you around if time permits or at least answer any questions you may have.

Paging the great James N. as I'm pretty sure there's other houses standing besides Maxey's, but can't recall.
I'm a little confused - you've mentioned Maxey's - Sam Bell Maxey of Paris, I presume - so I suppose you're talking about the Paris area. Unfortunately, like all the other communities in the North Texas region there is absolutely NOTHING remaining from the Civil War. (That's what makes Jefferson in East Texas such a treasure!) The S.B. Maxey House is a Texas State Park, but I'd definitely check before attempting to visit to make sure it's open in these uncertain times. (The state might actually be trying to divest themselves of it now that the South in general and the Confederacy in particular is so "uncool.") The house dates from ca. 1880's and is a good example of Late Victorian; Maxey's grave is in the city cemetery on the south side of town just off the Loop.

Edit: Speaking of Jefferson, it's the location of the grave of at least one Confederate General, Richard Waterhouse:

Oh, I had referenced General Maxey's home because it had been mentioned. I've since recalled that the I think post-war home of CS Postmaster John Reagan in I think Palestine is still standing. I seem to recall an uncle who is on my naughty list mentioning one time, something about it being for sale.
