I will be very happy if someone can help me identify a button. My neighbor found this button in her “bits and pieces” box, diameter about 2 centimeters. Button is now located in Norway.
I have not managed to find the connection between "New Providence Militia" and the rest of the pattern; The crowned floral badges of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Heraldic badges of England (Tudor Rose), Scotland (Thistle) and Ireland (Shamrock). Could this button have been used on uniforms during the civil war?

It might help is people could see the back of the button.

There are a couple towns in the USA called New Providence. Still if I had to totally guess, because it has a British look, I would go with New Providence Island in the Bahamas.

@major bill is spot on the back-mark will be the tell tell. I also have to agree that with the crown its going to be Bahamas. This link will give you some info on the NP Militia.
