Longstreet New Host Introduction

Congratulations! I too am drawn to Longstreet, not because he was played by Tom Berenger, whom I really like as an actor, but I think he was ahead of his time and is not in the "Holy Trinity" as Lee, Jackson, Davis. Those are just my opinions.

Thanks! I can agree with that assessment. His tactics were ahead of the times... and he's not worshipped like Lee and Jackson... but an interesting and misunderstood man nonetheless.

Joe - So good to have you taking on this job! I find a lot to admire in Longstreet as well. I've seen many posts from you, but this is the first time I've really known anything about who you are. Thanks for sharing that touching story about your history teacher. Where are you in Connecticut? I'm back in Raleigh now where I grew up, but we lived in Connecticut for a number of years after moving to Cornwall to take care of my wife's father. After that, we moved down to Danbury. While in Connecticut, I also worked for a while in Willimantic, then in Fairfield and Norwalk.

Thanks @A. Roy ! Appreciate the kind words. I'm from Windsor, which is just north of Hartford. I've been to Willimantic and Norwalk a few times, so I know the area a little it. The Frog Bridge in Willimantic always stands out in my mind. I'm sure you enjoy the weather in Raleigh more much than in Danbury

Congratulations and I'm sure that you will do a stellar job with Ole Pete. I too have had a long term interest in Longstreet as while growing up my Grandparents had close friend that lived in Gainesville, Georgia and they both remembered Longstreet's 2nd wife (who was evidently a well known figure around those parts) and they would talk about the General's wife occasionally. Also, I've also been a fan of Moxley Sorrel and his role with Longstreet, so I guess that it's a twofer.

When the firing began, Longstreet was superior. Quality of leadership outside combat was less than superior. He required some 'hand holding' by competent superiors therefore making him less than ideal as an independent operator.

Helen Dortch Longstreet used to visit Richs Department store in downtown Atlanta. She was a progressive women when it came to womens rights. First women ever appointed to state government in GA.

Served with the Army of Tennessee. Chickamauga and Atlanta, as well as some other lesser known battles and skirmishes.
