I bought this rifle ( A Sharps Mitchell's Contract navy rifle serial number 41860. ) I am now in possession of the rifle. It is in very fine to museum quality condition. I am trying to develop the history of the rifle and I am interested in any help you could be to me. I am interested in any available documentation such as where the rifle was shipped for issuance, Where or what ship it was assigned to and even, possibly, who was issued this rifle. I am also looking to pair it with a very scarce Ames Saber Bayonet which can be difficult to identify. I will have a 22 inch blade, no serial number, stamped made in Chicopee Falls Ma and will have a completely enclose bayonet lug receiver. The Blade will have an unstopped Fuller. I hope someone can give me some new direction. Thanks!

Hello, that looks like a great piece! You may get some information from knowledgeable members in this section but I would post this in the "small arms and ammunition" forum. More concentration on this type of topic there.
Good luck!
