Just bought this hat at an antique store. Shows age but is in nice condition. I bought it because it looked cool and reminded me of a Zoauve kepi! I could find NO pictures or info online ~ Price tag said it was a late 1800's French Zoauve Musician hat...I don't think so? Appreciate ANY information ~ Thanks...just added a better side view photo...

We will have to see if this is a US cap. We will have to research it, but the fact it is quartered and braided makes me think French of European.

Hello and welcome to the talk forum from Southeast Missouri located on the banks of the muddy Mississippi River. It looks French to me. Post war at any rate, and not American. I still like it though.

Interesting. Below I zoomed in, the tumbnail image reminded me of Austrian hat from Napoleonic Wars. The French formed some Scouts units and the Ecclairs (maybe spelled wrong but it does sound like the pastry) who worn tall caps with little adornment.

Eclaireurs.

Welcome

Thanks ~ I can start more research!
