Sometimes when looking at Compiled Service Records, I'll see cards like the one below.

If I wanted to read "Special Order Number 202/22", how could I do so? Where is such a thing found at? Can it be known based on the information given?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out!

All the Special Orders of the Confederate States army are cataloged by date. The ones for Aug 1863 should be in this volume https://catalog.archives.gov/id/7403402 which includes the dates June 11, 1863 - October 13, 1863.

Here is the one you asked about: from the National Archives, War Department Collection of Confederate Records, Record Group 109, Special Orders Adjutant and Inspector General's Office, Chapter 1, Volume 218, page 101. (Scan of the Special Orders for the dates specified.)

EDIT TO ADD: The records are not indexed or searchable, so let me know if you need help finding a specific record. @Zella also has experience working in these records so she may be willing to help locate specific Special Orders too.

WOW!!! Thank you so much... not only for providing the images & link to the particular record referenced in the CSR page I posted, but also for revealing this resource to me! These are records I had no idea were out here on the internet, and now I feel like you've given me the key to a whole new world of info.

I also greatly appreciate your offer to do lookups, but there are a bunch and I'd like to get familiar enough with them that I can do it for myself and save you lots of time

Thank you, again, so much... Can't express my gratitude enough!

I know EXACTLY how you feel! Me too!:bounce:

There's a TON of information in there. But it would literally take years to read them all. Just do me a favor if you would be so kind? As you read, if you run across anything related to my regiment, please snip and save with the source, page, etc. and send it my way?

The records are in different volumes, cataloged by date, so let me know when you need help finding the ones for specific dates and Ill "reveal my secret search methods" so you can easily find the ones you're looking for.
