From what I remember of the book, it was like an encyclopedia. What stood out to young me, probably aged 8 or 9 when I got it at my little school library were the battlefield pictures.
The pictures were color drawings, but the men were very small. I don't recall if it had the battlefield maneuver blocks, I just really remember the chronological battle drawings. There would be scenes of men surrendering, and fighting, but like I mentioned they were particularly small, and I've searched all over looking for the book.
I even went back to the library at the small school around 2011 and looked, but couldn't find the book.
I know it's a shot in the dark, but maybe someone here can help so thanks in advance!
Chris

I never had much interest in the CW until I read the 1982 edition of The American Heritage Picture History of the Civil War. Its a large, heavy book with 630 pages of battle map drawings, pictures, and considerable narrative written by Bruce Catton. The book was purchased while working 7-12's on a construction project near a small town in Illinois during the winter of 1983/4. The only place available to rent was a small unheated basement apartment without TV. Being a stranger in a town that rolled up the sidewalks when the sun went down and since I did not get off work till well after dark, entertainment was extremely limited. I found this book on the discount table at a local Kmart. It was selected because it was big, cheap, and would last me awhile. Most evenings after work, I would pick up something to-go for dinner, get in bed, wrap up in my electric blanket, and pour myself a generous glass of Jack Daniels. The bottle was so cold, ice was not required. My normal routine was to eat dinner and read until falling asleep. By the time the book was finished, my interest in CW history had increased to a new level.

I still have the book which has a prominent place in my bookcase filled with mostly CW books.

I'm still learning how to use this place, but I certainly will search for info next time before posting.
My post was not meant as a rebuke in any way... that particular book was brought up in a thread the other evening and I merely wanted to point it out so that you could see. My apologies, and again, welcome!
