I have an ancestor who supposedly was enlisted in the Union Army, at least for a little while. This is all I know of him.
John F. Shannon was born in Pennsylvania, about 1849. At 16, he enlisted for service in the Union army during the last year of the War. Subsequently he went to Clark County, Indiana, and married.
That's just about it. I don't know how to find him, as my genealogy skills aren't great and I don't have the cash to buy an account on Ancestry.com, at least not today.
Does anyone have anything? Any information would be helpful, even if it's a good place to start. I've put in the name of who he married along with him, Pennsylvania, Clark County, Union Army, you name it, I've put it in every search engine and free genealogy site I could find.
Thanks!
