Found this image of our favorite Powder Monkey on line, and it gave me a chuckle

I've always found it intriguing that the operation of a ship in combat depended on these young boys bringing up powder. That took some balls, so to speak, to go down to a relatively safe part of the ship and then back up to the battle, again and again. Even more so in earlier days when a couple of ships of the line were going broadside to broadside and the powder monkeys had to climb up two, three, even four decks to serve their guns.
