N C Goldings, perhaps? Could this be the signature of the owner of the Golding's farm? There was the battle of Garnet's and Golding's farm - 6-27 to 6-28-1862. Located in Henrico County, Va. Part of the Seven Days Battle.

I believe it is N C Iddings. It looks like the signature is on a CDV? Is there a backmark on the image? Ohio perhaps?

There is a Nathan Iddings (born 1841) from Ohio, no middle initial included, but there are a couple of images at the Find A Grave memorial you could compare to.

I found a bio of him. No mention of him in the Civil War. A mention of General Grant by the author of the bio.
