Here it is folks, my first ever shell for the collection! Hotchkiss type II nose, with fuse, unknown location.

I have one that has broken in half, likely from ground seepage and freezing - when you lift off the nose and its fuse plug you can see the balls in their matrix.

Good deal. I don't know if I've even seen one quite like that.

Tap it with a hammer to see if it is hollow.

Yes - no powder charge left though. I bought this years ago from a famous relic hunter in Louisiana - supposedly it came from Stone's River.

That's cool! I didn't know there'd still be stuff in there. I guess that's why it's so heavy.

Nice one but actually its a type 1 as there are no flame grooves. As far as case shot I believe with the fuse that is on it is a bursting shell is there a hole drilled in the side to disarm it?

No hole on the side, just the fuse. My bad on the type.
