I apologize if my posts have upset some of our honorable members. That was not my intention. I just do not understand, and am trying to learn what all the fuss is about. I am fairly new at researching my ancestry, and it seems there are those that do not appreciate my fascination with history. I do not agree with what some of my ancestors may have done concerning slavery, but most of my kin never owned a slave. Most were farmers, some store owners, or laborers. However, they did fight because they felt there families were in danger. They may have been mislead, but I cannot fault them for what they considered the truth coming from those considered above them. To me all history should be preserved and examined, and in some way honored.

I have yet to say anything derogatory concerning the Northern side of the war. I agree both sides had their faults. The point I am trying to make is that we learn from our mistakes, and after the war I am sure Lee and others possibly regretted what they did in the name of defense. They may not have said it out loud, but their thoughts must have plagued them to the grave.

Edited; modern politics

Again my apologies if anything I implied or said has offended you.

You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself.
You've been listening to the oldies station again-Ricky Nelson's Garden Party. Another entertainer that should have listened to the advice to stay off the plane.

I was looking out your web site and saw your interest in Nathan Forrest.

Nathan and I are 16th cousins twice removed

Nathan Forrest and I are both descendants of William Gascoigne X of Yorkshire England.

No need for apologies! We're all friends here.

You have a connection to Forrest? Thanks for posting that - I've been looking for his Norman ancestors, which are from his father's English half!

Keep plugging away respectfully.

From another poster with plenty of Virginia ancestry, I hope you stick around. There are some good people here who really know a lot about the Civil War and history in general. On my mother's side of the family tree, DNA has proven I am related to a famous Civil War cavalryman too, but he wore the Union blue. I am a distant cousin of George Custer, we share the same paternal ancestor from Pennsylvania in the early 1700s. He had an ancestor who was killed by Indians on the western frontier of Virginia in the 1700s. His name was George Custer too.
