I have been both to sites that offer one, and ones that offer multiple tours. I by far prefer the multiples, especially since generally if you do more then one they are often discounted. Two possible examples.

1-Plantations- can offer tours focusing on owners (especially if famous), the agriculture, and slavery.
2-Battlefields- can offer tours focusing on days or phases of a battle

Realistically theres only so much that can fit into a 45min-1hr tour......Places that only offer one generic tour generally can only touch on the basics of the different aspects and I often feel they were somewhat a waste, other then being a photo op........At sites that offer multiples, I feel I have better chance learning something, and at ones that offer all tours at one discounted price, sometimes I do ones I might not have, and am glad I did when done.

Guess it depends on variables...how much time do you have, how much interest do you have in the site, is there something specific you want to learn more about, etc.

Give an example...if it were Antietam to which I have been to multiple times, I would go for a targeted tour. But say a plantation i have never been to, I would go for a more generic/all inclusive tour. And if it so moved me, I would spend all day if I had the time, and that was all that was on my agenda.
