I was reviewing terms that are used to describe styles of Civil War era trouser pocket flaps. Was the term "mule ear" pocket flaps a Civil War term, or a modern term? The same question for "dog ear" trouser pocket flaps.

Other terms for trouser pocket: Scalloped pocket flaps, French pocket flaps, Front pockets a.k.a. slit pockets, Watch pocket, Side seam pocket a.k.a. welt pocket or side slit pocket, and Crescent moon pockets.

Anyone want to to enlighten us about the difference between "mule ear" pocket flaps and "dog ear' pocket flaps?
