Not a mortar round as it isn't the right size and it has no tong holes.

Diameter is not easily seen from your photos but weight and approximate diameter don't fit for cannon shells I'm familiar with. Also, the plugged hole doesn't look right for a fuze/fuse hole and such wouldn't be plugged like that (that I've ever seen). I'm not positive it's not a shell but don't think it is. Others here who are more knowledgeable than me will weigh in before long.

I knew there was a reason I purchased "The Big Guns" on E-Bay...

in heavy artillery, the 64-pdr was 8.0 inches in diameter. From the angle in the photos, I can't tell for sure what the diameter of that one is. However, shell or spherical case would be lighter than 64 pounds.

It looks like there is a wire extending from it. What type of material is around the wire? If it is lead, I wonder if a wire was inserted and the hole filled in order to use it for something else ( I have seen weights used to close those old iron fence gates that were made that way) - that does not mean it's not a cannon ball, but if that was done, it would throw off the weight.
the exact diameter would help in identifying if it was one of the standard sizes

Welcome from THE Heart of Dixie. Its hard to tell from the photos but if those are numbers stamped into it its not an artillery round plus that plug is suspect in it being a spherical round, and as @drezac has stated the weight is wrong.

I plan on measuring diameter today. That part sticking up like a wire is just some of the tar or whatever that black substance is. I know there wasn't much room for mistake but that plug looking area doesn't stick out much at all.

I will look for #'s have never noticed any before.
