Since no one else seems to have started Monument Monday so far this week, here's my contribution of the monuments placed at the beginning (above) and end (below) of the Andrews Raid or Great Locomotive Chase in April, 1862. Except for details relating to the beginning or end of the chase, the two are virtually identical. The one above stands outside the Civil War and Locomotive Museum in Big Shanty (modern-day Kennesaw) where the locomotive General was seized by James J. Andrews and his party of some twenty "raiders"; the one below is a mile and a half north of the station at Ringgold, Ga. where the General literally ran out of steam, her supply of fuel exhausted, and Andrews and his men took to their heels.

The latter was one of our tour stops last October during our CivilWarTalk Gathering; thanks to those members whose photos I have taken the liberty to "borrow" for this post!

Great photos. Love that monument with the actual locomotive on top.
The thing I DON'T like about it is that in the 1880's or 1890's when it was erected the artist who created the model of the General used for his subject its then-contemporary appearance instead of how it looked in the 1860's, or now for that matter:

The 18th of April is the date of the Prussian assault on the danish Dybbøl position in 1864.

This year I participated in the joined memorial that is held at the location of both danish and Prussian mass graves.
(It got participation from both civilian organizations, reenactors, political representative and the military on both sides)

Of the photos I have found online from the event I actually think I like this one the best... because it show both danish and german soldiers.

This monument is on the road down from Dybbøl toward Sønderborg and mark where the danish Major General du Plat was killed with two of his staff officers, trying to organize the retreat of the danish forces.
I took the picture on the 18th when walking to the trainstation after leaving the museum.
