I stumbled across this recipe today, never knowing that Harriet Beecher Stowe's sister wrote a recipe book! Glancing over a description of it, I came across a recipe for pure yumminess in the form of molasses candy, essentially a popcorn and nut brittle. I am posting the original receipt from Catharine Beecher's book, as well as an adaptation that might fit modern ingredients well. Enjoy!

The pictures always add a lot. I am so glad they do that, especially for the food ones.

On rainy days, my mother would make a recipe for molasses taffy. Unfortunately, by the time the taffy cooled enough to handle, it was too cool to pull! The result we called "jawbreakers." We enjoyed them, but each piece lasted a long time in the mouth!

Coincidently, Mary Janes are now made by NECCO Co. Didn't they make the candy wafers during the CW?
