Molasses Candy

I stumbled across this recipe today, never knowing that Harriet Beecher Stowe's sister wrote a recipe book! Glancing over a description of it, I came across a recipe for pure yumminess in the form of molasses candy, essentially a popcorn and nut brittle. I am posting the original receipt from Catharine Beecher's book, as well as an adaptation that might fit modern ingredients well. Enjoy!

Catherine Beecher was eldest child of Rev. Lyman Beecher. She wrote many books on helping women with domestic chores and being competent as caretakers and homemakers.

It is a similar recipe,when he says to use grade B maple syrup is that is darker in color then grade A.it also costs a little cheaper.

On rainy days, my mother would make a recipe for molasses taffy. Unfortunately, by the time the taffy cooled enough to handle, it was too cool to pull! The result we called "jawbreakers." We enjoyed them, but each piece lasted a long time in the mouth!
