Posted below is USS Osage, a Neosho-class monitor in service on the western rivers. The looks of it at a glance indicate it is double-turreted, but the stern "turret" is actually a casemate built over the paddlewheel.
I went to this website a few minutes ago and discovered their page on Neosho, which includes this photo:
The website itself is a creation of Wilson's Creek Battlefield (NPS) and the Springfield-Greene County Library District of Missouri; it's a very informative site concerning the Trans-Mississippi Theater, but mistakes will still slip by them. One mistake includes an old photo that someone identified and marked as "Neosho" about a century ago.
I know the real name of this vessel. Does anyone else?
