Minor mystery solved

Using the Lindberg kit for a spliced-hull build of the blockade runner Pevensey.

Keep us updated on your build. I've very interested in seeing this vessel take shape.

AndyHall, I'm not sure on the deck treatments at this point.

Today was 'proofing' the hull splicing. By combining the bow and aft 'leftovers', I can make two schooners @ 133' L. and 29' Beam. Anyone know of ships with these measurements?

While foraging for supplies and old parts, I came across a version of the Independence Schooner my dad made (so that's 30+ years ago) that had been played with so hard it turned into a hulk. Hmmmm.... 'waste not, want not'. Looks like a good candidate for waterlining and after an overhaul (steam screw tug of somesort), donated to 15mm ACW wargamers.

That model is based on the Morris Class of U.S. Revenue Cutters, one of which became the Texas Navy schooner Independence. The kit has gone through several re-brandings that garbled its identification. It's a decent kit, considering its age, and can be kitbashed into any number of things.

AndyHall, tried to copy/paste your earlier remarks on that INDEPENDENCE kit to mine but it didn't take.

As far as the Pevensey's deck, I'm thinking of using the LINDBERG's deck as a template for sheet styrene. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the planked scribed material floating around here.

So, any 135' long schooners jump to mind?

There's a certain sense of satisfaction using old (including 19th century) tools to make a model of a 19th century ship.
