Michigan made cannon

E.B. Ward (Wyandotte, Michigan just south of Detroit) made up a cannon and sent it to see if he could get an order. The government tested his heavy cannon but did not order any.

I found an interesting article here on "Captain" Eber Brock Ward. He apparently was never in the military but does have some well known connections to the Civil War.

Thanks for posting and I am adding this to my files. Can you tell me the newspaper and the date? It very interesting that he saw the need for these big guns to protect the Michigan lake front.

Yes I can look up the date and will post it. I know there is a 2nd article which describes the cannon he made.

The government appears to have tested his cannon but not ordered more.
