I just bought these rank stripes and was told they were from the Indian Wars. To the best of my knowledge, white rank stripes weren't used or at least weren't common during this time period. I thought they may actually be from the Mexican War era. Were there white rank stripes post-Civil War? If not, are these from the Mexican War.

The Army went back to using white as a branch of service color for Infantry around I think it was 1885.

Not sure about these, the shape is all wrong for both eras, at least it looks that way to me. But I'm not an expert....

Yes for a while the U.S. Army wore white chevrons after the Civil War. White NCO chevrons were worn during the Spanish American War.

Hard to tell from the photos, but if there is machine stitching on the reverse, then you know that they are not Mexican War era. They appear to be corporal stripes, but the area of demarcation is also white, very peculiar. I wonder if they are European?
