McPherson Farm Circa 1890

Here is an interesting image that shows the McPherson farm as it appeared ca. 1890. That means the cows around the barn are NOT witness cows. At the time of the battle, only the barn, wagon shed, and house were there. The two story house shown here is from the 1880's and is oriented east and west. The 1863 house was a single story oriented north and south. The wagon shed was there in 1863, but has been rotated 90 degrees from its 1863 orientation. This ca. 1890 image was taken only a few years before the house seen here burnt to the ground. Today, only the barn remains as you can see in my modern photo taken from a similar perspective.

From my visit over this ground in September 2016, that group of trees within the apparent rough ground at left in the modern photograph contains debris that I assumed came from the remains of the house.

Tom, I as well have always assumed that the rubble were parts of the house foundation. But I have never been on a battle walk in that area with a ranger or Guide to ask that question,

Witness cows! In looking to the left of the modern picture, it looks like some fairly new tree plantings in the open lawn area.
