The stately looking McPherson Barn stood right in the middle of the July 1st fight and was used as a field hospital in the early days after the battle. By the turn of the century (1900), the farm house had burnt down, the outbuildings were gone and the barn had deteriorated to the point that it hardly resembled the battle era structure. Thanks to restoration efforts and the post battle photographs of Mathew Brady, the barn now appears nearly identical to what the soldiers saw in 1863. Here is a photo showing the barn in 1900 compared to a recent photo I took.
