McClellan McClellan....hmmmm

My take on McClellan on the battlefield is simply that he was simply an over-cautious commander. However, he was excellent at preparing and training the AOP for what awaited it in the months and even years ahead. He was highly admired by his troops and I think it is a fair statement to assume that HE knew this. Therefore, it would only be natural for him to overthink situations which would put them in harm's way. (Although there were times when he allowed this type of decision making to alter his chances for overwhelming success, especially at Antietam.) I certainly wouldn't place him in the category of a "coward" or "traitior". A little high on himself at times possibly, and definitely not an admirer of Mr. Lincoln... but definitely not an opponent of the interests or success of his nation.
